James Peel CPA, EPA, ETMA, MA

James is a UK Chartered Patent Attorney, a registered European Patent Attorney, and a registered European Trade Mark and Design Attorney.

Prior to setting up his own practice, James was head of patents and the managing partner of the London office of a national IP firm. James has also worked as an in-house patent attorney in Sweden for a global pharmaceutical company and in East Yorkshire for a fast moving consumer goods company. This experience of giving intellectual property advice to businesses with such different commercial strategies has given James an excellent basis for helping businesses find the right intellectual property strategy for them.

James has a degree in chemistry and experience in the pharmaceutical industry. James is able to work with chemical, biotech, pharmaceutical and mechanical technologies. For example, he has experience of inventions concerning new chemical entities, polymers, dyes, pharmaceutical compositions, catalysts, agrochemicals, antibodies, grouts such as cements and resins. James also has experience of helping companies protect mechanical devices such as plumbing devices, cleaning products, locks, rock bolts and medical devices such as stents, syringes, autoclaves, operating tables and pharmaceutical delivery devices e.g. inhalers.

James has considerable experience of obtaining patent protection at the European Patent Office (EPO), UK Intellectual Property Office and overseas. At the EPO, he also has experience of successfully representing his clients before the Examining, Opposition and Appeal Divisions. Overseas jurisdictions where James has experience of obtaining patent, utility model (where applicable) and design protection include USA, China, India, Australia, Canada, Chile, New Zealand and Israel.
