Matthew Allen RPA, EPA, ETMA, MSc, BEng

Matthew is a registered UK and European Patent Attorney and a registered European Trade Mark and Design Attorney.

Matthew obtained a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of London, and a MSc degree in Management of Intellectual Property Law from the University of London. Matthew worked for a large UK firm of patent and trademark attorneys before starting his own practice in 2008. Matthew has also worked in an industrial IP department at Sandvik, a multinational advanced materials and engineering company.

Matthew specializes in a wide range of mechanical engineering technologies and technologies in neighbouring industries. He has particular experience with: high performance brakes and clutches in the automotive industry; aircraft fuselage, wing and landing gear designs; mechanical inserts and fasteners and processes for insertion; applications of advanced materials for drilling, cutting, and boring machines; dental and surgical implants; medical devices such as stents and speculums; and, a broad range of consumer, household and industrial products. Matthew is also interested in fuel cell technology, sustainable air and water supply, and sustainable waste treatment, rock climbing, mountaineering and other sporting equipment.

Matthew has experience of numerous IP procedures, which include: hearings and revocation proceedings before the UK Intellectual Property Office; interviewing expert witnesses; recording transfers of IP rights following mergers and acquisitions; providing opinions in relation to validity and infringement; dealing with patent infringement disputes, including negotiating settlements for clients; ex parte and inter parte proceedings before the European Patent Office; and, opposition proceedings before OHIM.
